The Short Answer
Expect a few hundred dollars for a week, with the size, the weight and the days moving the total. The national figures are not Port Charlotte quotes, and the one local price list we found is a single company's. Your price comes from the size, the debris, the rental days and the weight allowance, and we write it down before you order.
National Prices by Size
The table lists Dropcurb's national weekly range for each size and the weight usually included.
| Size | National range (7 days) | Weight usually included |
|---|---|---|
| 10 yard | $250 to $450 | 1 to 2 tons |
| 20 yard | $300 to $550 | 2 to 3 tons |
| 30 yard | $400 to $700 | 3 to 5 tons |
| 40 yard | $500 to $900 or more | 4 to 6 tons |
Each box has a page with its dimensions and jobs, starting with the 10 yard dumpster and the 20 yard dumpster.
One Local Price List
Local prices are hard to find, because most hauler pages leave them off. Big Dawg Dumpsters, a Port Charlotte hauler, lists general-debris dumpsters on its website at $450 for 15 yards, $475 for 18, $525 for 20 and $625 for 30 (read October 13, 2026). The same page lists overage at $90 per ton, $20 a day after day 7, $55 for a mattress and $30 for a tire. These are one company's published prices and not our quotes, but they show that a local rental can sit close to the national ranges.
Fees That Raise the Final Bill
Fees past the base price are where totals drift. Dropcurb lists overweight at about $50 to $150 per extra ton, extra days at about $10 to $30 per day, a blocked pickup at about $75 to $150, an overfilled container at about $50 to $200 and a placement permit at about $25 to $150 or more depending on the city. A quote that lists every line is the one to compare.
What Charlotte County Charges for the Weight
The county sets the disposal rate under every load. The Charlotte County Landfill charges $49.88 per ton for waste generated in the county, with a $5.00 minimum, and $99.74 per ton for waste generated outside it, with a $17.00 minimum. Construction and demolition debris must carry the building permit number of the source site, or the load is billed the out-of-county rate. On a 5-ton load that is $249.40 against $498.70.
Ways to Keep the Cost Down
Control the weight and the days. Pick the smallest box that fits, because dense debris costs the same overage in any size. Tarp the load before rain, since Port Charlotte's yearly precipitation is 58.16 inches at the NOAA 6.2 W station (1991-2020 normals) and wet material weighs more. Have the permit number ready for construction debris. Finish inside the rental window.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Port Charlotte?
Dropcurb (April 2026) reports a national range of $294 to $480 before weight, permit and overage charges. A local hauler lists $450 to $625 for 15 to 30 yards, according to its website. Those are not our quotes. Call 123-456-7890 and we write your price down after you describe the job.
What is the cheapest size?
The 10-yard, at $250 to $450 for a week nationally, according to Dropcurb. It holds 1 to 2 tons and fits a garage or a bathroom. A box that overflows costs more than a larger box that fits, so choose by the debris first and by price second.
Why did my dumpster cost more than the quote?
Overweight loads, extra days, blocked access and overfilling are the usual culprits. Dropcurb lists those at about $50 to $150 per extra ton, $10 to $30 per day, $75 to $150 and $50 to $200 nationally. Get the allowance, the overage rate and the days in writing before you order.
Is a flat-rate dumpster cheaper than weight-based pricing?
Not necessarily. Rental contracts usually include a tonnage cap and bill per ton above it, according to Dropcurb. A flat rate with a small allowance can cost more than a higher base price with a bigger allowance. Compare the allowance and the overage rate, not just the total.
Does Charlotte County charge more for construction debris?
The county charges the same $49.88 per ton, but construction and demolition debris must come with the building permit number. Without a valid number, the load is billed $99.74 per ton, according to the county's landfill page. Give your hauler the number when you order.
