Cleanouts a Dumpster Handles
Junk removal by dumpster fits any pile you are willing to load:
- Garage and storage cleanouts: boxes, tools and broken shelving.
- Estate cleanouts: furniture, clothing and household goods.
- Move-out cleanouts: what the movers did not take.
- Hoarding and long-term accumulation: loaded over several days.
- Appliances and furniture: old couches, mattresses and cabinets, once any fluids are drained.
Work is performed by independent professionals.
Why Port Charlotte Households Collect So Much
Houses here have been lived in for a long time. The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020-2024, table S2504) shows about 37% of Port Charlotte's 27,888 occupied homes were built from 1960 to 1979 and about 43% from 1980 to 1999. Census QuickFacts lists 83.2% owner-occupied housing (2020-2024), so decades of belongings sit in the same house. A cleanout of one is a 20 or 30-yard job.
The County Option and Where It Stops
The county runs mini-transfer facilities for residents, and the Mid-County Mini-Transfer Facility is at 19765 Kenilworth Blvd. in Port Charlotte. The county's transfer-station brochure says it requires proof of county residency, does not accept household garbage or electronics, and limits furniture and refuse to 12 trips and 18 cubic yards per fiscal year. A garage or estate cleanout can exceed that. Our guide to the Port Charlotte dump and landfill compares the options.
Which Size Fits a Cleanout
Match the box to the room count. The dimensions come from CustomTruck's outside measurements and the weights from Dropcurb's national figures.
| Cleanout | Size | Outside dimensions | Weight usually included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Garage, storage unit, one room | 10 yard | 12 x 8 x 3.5 ft | 1 to 2 tons |
| Several rooms, large garage | 20 yard | 22 x 8 x 4 ft | 2 to 3 tons |
| Whole house, estate | 30 yard | 22 x 8 x 6 ft | 3 to 5 tons |
CustomTruck files full residential cleanouts under the 30-yard.
Dumpster or Crew Pickup
A dumpster wins when the pile is big or the job stretches over several days. A crew costs less for a few items. Dropcurb lists $79 for one couch and $98 for a couch and a chair on its per-item service. We deliver dumpsters and do not send a loading crew. Our comparison of dumpster rental and junk removal helps you decide.
